Egyptian actress Sanaa Gamil is denying news reports that she gave an interview to an Israeli journalist who approached her, saying she was on the verge of belting the hapless hack, according to the Arabic daily Al Bayan.
“A young woman broke into my room asking me to give her an interview. When I learned from her that she was working for the Israeli newspaper Maarif, I dismissed her and shouted at her. The neighbors rushed to prevent me from hitting the journalist, who fled the studio. I kept cursing Sharon and the Israelis, as well as the American media,” Gamil told the daily.
The actress added that she wouldn’t talk to anyone with Israeli nationality, even after Jerusalem, occupied by Israeli troops 34 years ago, was restored to the Arab residents.
“I participated in a TV advertisement after I had secured guarantees about the seriousness of the advertising company. But I have nixed many advertising offers and tempting money because the producer was American. My stance is like that because the US advocates for Israel, and so I'll never participate in any ad connected to it throughout my life,” added Gamil.
Meanwhile, Gamil is shooting the series Al Bar Al Gharbi (Western Land), in which she plays the role of a mother from upper Egypt.
She has described this role as one of her most difficult, due to the need to adopt many accents, including the pure upper Egyptian, Cairene and European accents.
The series is directed by Ismail Abdel Hafez, scripted by Mohammed Galal Abdel Qawi, and costara Farouq Al Fishawi and Raghda. The episodes are scheduled to be screened during the upcoming Ramadan on ten Arab TV channels – Albawaba.com
