After undergoing 34 surgical operations and years of waiting, Samah Anwar returns to movie studios as a director. Samah who has recently abandoned her wheel chair after bitter suffering of a health crises wishes to pull the Egyptian cinema out of its routine and work with the renowned actors.
There is a big difference between Samah Anwar now and 3 years ago. The Egyptian actress was a simple, naughty and funny girl who used to wear gene trousers and a T-shirt but she comes back now after quiet life on a wheel chair to achieve her dreams and delayed aspirations.
Describing her recent experience and health crises, Samah told Al Sharq Al Awsat newspaper in an interview “my experience was beneficial from all aspects. Eve after it was over, it provided me with power I never imagined before and revealed to me the people who stood beside me such as Nabila Ubaid and Noor Al Sharif. All this support whether from the inside or outside the artistic milieu has given me a real value and enhanced my determination”.
Responding to a question regarding her beginning in direction, Samah said, “direction study has made me feel breathing again. I studied film direction at Hollywood Movie Institute in the USA. This experience was not only beneficial for me in direction but I also benefited from it as an actress in assessing my performances ad revealed to me the areas where I was negligent in work. I was not aware of so many things and was under the impression that acting is just a talent. But with this new experience I have realized how splendid studying is because this would give you a direct advantage”.
Samah admits that she discovered her shortcomings as an actress when she studied direction. She said that she benefited a lot from some of her unsuccessful films. “I have got no specific work plan at the moment. I have only dreams, which I hope they become a reality. I want to offer artistic accomplishments that have meaning and I want to work with renowned actors whom I had no chance to work with before. I like challenge and provocation and I dream to costar with Ahmed Zaki and Yahya al-Fakhrani”, Samah added.
