Egyptian actress Salwa Khattab chose the roles she played with great care and lived these roles in a unique manner that led her to success. Her latest role was in the series Hadith al Sabah Wa al Masaa (Morning and Evening Speech) which was aired during the last fasting month of Ramadan.

“In my opinion the series Hadith al Sabah Wa al Masaa (Morning and Evening Speech) marks a key turning point in the history of the Egyptian drama. It has come out differently from other series in its story, direction and actors’ roles and its success has confirmed this fact,” Khattab told the UAE daily al Bayan adding that the series has been a turning point in the course of her career as an actress who played the role as a woman characterized with daring, courage and intelligence. “The series was an added advantage for me at all the personal and artistic levels,” she said.

“My roles are relatively few and this stems from the fact that I dislike to play trashy roles which neither amuse me as an actress nor my audience. From the artistic point of view, I like the role, which I feel new, different and consistent with my personal contentment, thoughts and culture. This does not necessarily mean that I should believe in the ideas of the character I play. For example I played the role as an Israeli female journalist who collaborates with the Israeli Intelligence, al Mosad, in the series Raafat al Haggan despite the fact that I oppose Israel from the personal, national and pan Arab points of view,” added Khattab.

About her latest film al Saher (The Magician) which won the award for the best Arabic film at Damascus latest festival, Salwa said, “this film was a remarkable experience for me as I expected it to win the prize. This is due to the fact that its director Radwan al Kashef has tackled through this film an issue, which the Egyptian cinema did not tackle so often in the past. I think the role I played as divorced Shawkiyyah who lives in the neighborhood and makes puppets to sell them and make people happy will remain one of my best movie roles. This is in addition to my other roles in the films such as al Aragose (Clown), Katibat al Ea’dam (Death Brigade) and others.” – Albawaba.com
