Contrary to expectations, the advertisement campaign held for controversial Egyptian singer Ruby’s Alexandria Egypt concert proved to be a failure, after very few people bought tickets to the show leading to its cancellation.
The cancellation caused the singer to fall into a state of depression, since the prescheduled concert was to mark her first performance in Alexandria. The concert was called off hours before it was to begin.
The company that was sponsoring the concert had rented an arena for 25 thousand Egyptian pounds and created 10 thousand tickets at prices ranging from 60 to 70 Egyptian pounds.
According to the Qatar based daily, Al Raya, only 1500 tickets were sold, which is considered too small a number to hold any concert and so Ruby returned to her home in Cairo.
On a different note, Jordanian Minister of Culture denied that his ministry had released an order to ban Ruby from participating in the Shubaib Festival for Arts and Culture, which took place earlier this summer, asserting that the Ministry of Interior is the only entity that could release such an order.
Despite the heated opposition voiced by Islamist Parliament members, who were backed by a number of local newspapers, over Ruby’s performance, sources from the administration of the festival asserted that there were no cancellations.
Sources added that Jordan is a country that has never forbidden artists from entering and the audience are the ones who decide who they want to listen to despite opposing views of some politicians.
