Acclaimed actor Robert De Niro is to become the latest Hollywood star to set up home in London, the Independent newspaper reported on Tuesday.
The newspaper claimed De Niro would shortly be moving into a $4.7 million, luxury penthouse flat overlooking the River Thames.
Split between two floors, the suite has 325 square meters (3,500 square feet) of floor space as well as a private landscaped garden, said the Independent.
It added that the flat was previously owned by world heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis, though he never used it.
De Niro had been looking for a London pied a terre while he works as a producer on the movie About the Boy, which is being shot in the British capital.
His new apartment is in a residential block which also houses a five-star hotel and a health club, said the Independent.
It is situated in the Docklands area of the city, which stood derelict for many years but has recently experienced a renaissance.
The neighborhood, home to wealthy bankers and lawyers, is not usually a stomping ground for celebrities.
But according to the newspaper, that will mean extra privacy for the notoriously shy De Niro, star of films including Taxi Driver, Godfather II and Raging Bull.
He follows in the footsteps of Madonna, Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise and the late director Stanley Kubrick, all of whom set up home in London. – AFP.
