Renowned Syrian actor Nidal Sejari passed away at the age of 48 (28th of May 1965) after a long battle with Laryngeal cancer. Nidal, a native of Latakia, had discovered he had cancer several years ago.
Despite being treated in Beirut and having most of the tumor removed, the actor was unable to fully recover and lost the battle to the disease. Sejari had a survivor spirit; despite his surgery, he appeared soon after in a silent role in the series “Al Khirbeh” (The Ruins).
According to Sayidaty.net, Nidal is considered one of the most noted comedy actors in Syria. He was immensely talented and has a large fan base in the region.
Having graduated from the Institute of Arts and worked as an actor and director, he was most notably known for his role as As’ad in “Day’a Day’a” (Lost Village).
Nidal’s critics had named him 'Charlie Chaplin' of the Arab world for mastering the different types of comedic roles he had played over the years.
When it came to politics, the actor was always objective, never taking sides and always calling for an end to the bloodshed and destruction taking place in Syria.
Shortly before his death, Nidal wrote on his Facebook page saying: “My country is injured and I’m bleeding...my larynx deceived me, and I had it removed...Please do not deceive your country.”
