Lebanese television broadcaster Razan Moughrabi will no longer host the ‘Adam and Eve’ portion of the weekly Egyptian television program “Al Bait Baitak” (Our Home is Your Home), after the manager of the Egyptian television station received numerous complaints.
According to the Kuwaiti based daily, Al Qabas, Egyptian audiences prefer watching Egyptian broadcasters instead of Lebanese, fearing that people will stop watching Egyptian programs.
The appearance of Razan on the show throughout the holy month of Ramadan gave rise to criticism from the network, journalists, and viewers who could not accept the idea of a woman like Razan with a daring and outspoken personality.
Head of the station, Suzan Hassan, said the appearance of Razan on the program and the large advertising campaign did not add to the success of the program.
Razan has denied circulating rumors that she insisted on wearing revealing clothing on the program, aired during the holy month of Ramadan.
Razan said that she and producer Mahmoud Barakerh, and the Egyptian television channel, had a common understanding regarding the traditions and ethics that Egyptian television follows during the holy month in terms of what shows are aired and how actors appear. Artists must be dressed in a manner that is conservative and respectable.
During Ramadan she wore clothing that is unrevealing and respectful of the holy month and to the viewers, said Razan.
The popular show acquired a new format for the holy month after Razan joined the crew.
The program was divided into three sections. The first is presented by the usual host journalist Mahmoud Saed, which usually deals with political issues.
The second part of the show was presented by Razan and Abbas regarding issues concerning men and women, usually including a social expert.
The final section of the program hosts different artists and is presented by Tamer Amin and Muna Sharqawi. Nawal was particularly chosen to be the guest for the first episode and she began by wishing everyone around the Arab world a happy Ramadan and praised the Egyptian people stressing her extreme admiration for them.
