The young Lebanese singer Randa Ghassoub has recently released a CD entitled al Wisadah Tatakallam (Pillow Talks) which includes her songs for the most prominent Jazz singers.
The CD contained 10 songs for the best Jazz singers including Billy Holiday, George Wira Girshwin, Dok Elington, Cole Pottier, Michel Franks and others in addition to the German composer Court Fil.
The album includes the songs Jamiakom (All of You), Lail (Night), Tawahin Qalbi (My Heart’s Mills), La Tashrah (Don’t Explain), Oghniyat Antonio (Antonio’s Song), Hobbi al Awwal Wa al Akheer (My First and Last Love), Mahowa Hatha al Shai al Lathi Yudaa al Hobb (What is This Thing Called Love?), Walaken Laisa Lee (But Not For Me), Hawla Muntasaf al Lail (Around Midnight) and Takallam Bi Sawt Munkhafed (Talk Quietly).
“In two nights we finished recording one CD as we worked for four hours each night. Recording took place at the Aquarium Studios and was distinguished with the real Jazz spirit and its old style away from computer. A marvelous and convenient environment prevailed without which such a satisfactory result couldn’t have been achieved. The test was difficult as the number of songs which I like to sing were many, so we chose these songs,” Ghasoub told the daily al Nahar.
She pointed out that, “the songs and music were about night and so I couldn’t sing them without subtlety. Some people may misunderstand me but singing is an artwork and I do not deny that I sing with romance.”
Responding to a question on her experience with Ziad al Rahabani, she said, “when I returned to Lebanon I met accidentally Ziad al Rahabani and when he heard me he liked my voice. We collaborated with each other after I agreed to participate with him in singing.”—Albawaba.com
