Egyptian police arrested Egyptian actor Farouq Al Fishawi to serve two sentences, one a jail sentence of one year and the other 6 months for forgery. The actor was seized in Giza, while he was staying at a hotel and then taken to the police station there where he had 7 different charges against him.

According to the London based daily Al Sharq Al Awsat, two of Farouq’s lawyers accompanied him to the police station and was set free after he paid bail for both sentences. The actor revealed that he will file an appeal for the jail term and will also pay back the money he owes to people.

Charges were filed against Al Fishawi for writing checks to a Palestinian businessman without having a balance. The businessman had agreed to drop charges if a payment of 30 thousand Egyptian pounds as overdue debts from Farouq were paid to him a matter which would save the actor from a two-year imprisonment.

Farouq was sentenced to a two-year jail term with a four thousand Egyptian pound bail by a Cairo court for writing bad checks worth 75 thousand Egyptian pounds to the businessman at the company he was heading. The businessman had filed a lawsuit against the actor when the checks he and other members of the company, which included a number of actors, were given bounced and it appeared that the actor did not have a balance. The actor did not attend the hearing which ruled against him and denied his right to a retrial.

The case against Farouq dates back to the year 2001, when he was head of the board of directors for a company that deals with division of real estate, and faced a lawsuit when he kept writing checks without having a balance over advance payments in a real estate deals.

Last year, the Meridian Hotel in Cairo filed a suit over renowned actor Farouq, after cursing the hotel's employees with lots of dirty words following an issue with his Iraqi girlfriend.

Fishawi has come to the hotel to pay his Iraqi friend's two days rent, following a fight between his friend and the employees of the hotel over not paying the rent due on her.

In another similar incident, Fishawi filed a suit over a weekly magazine for claiming his marriage to young actress Dunia. Totally surprised by the magazine's report, Farouq denied all the rumors earlier this month, saying that what was written in the magazine is not true and it's only intended to defame his and his colleague's reputation, confirming that he only carries "respect and honor for her and her family."

On her part, actress Dunia, well known for her role in the TV drama "Banat Afkari" (My Thoughts), commented on the rumor saying that, "what was reported in the magazine is intended to defame my reputation in an indirect way". Adding that marriage is not a crime, and if what was reported is true then they would not hide it. Dunia has lately got her divorce from producer Mohammed Hussein. - Albawaba.com
