Pokemon Legends: Z-A for Switch returns the series to Lumiose City.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A is the latest entry in the Pokémon video game series, set to release worldwide in 2025 for the Nintendo Switch.

The game will take players back to the Kalos region, the setting of Pokémon X and Y, where they will explore the city of Lumiose and its surroundings in a new way.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A is a spin-off of the main series, following the footsteps of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which launched in 2022. Unlike the traditional turn-based battles and linear progression of the core games, Pokémon Legends: Z-A will feature an open-world environment and real-time action combat. Players will be able to roam freely around the city and the countryside, encountering and catching wild Pokémon, as well as interacting with other characters and completing quests.

One of the main features of Pokémon Legends: Z-A is the return of Mega Evolution, a mechanic that was introduced in Pokémon X and Y and allows certain Pokémon to temporarily transform into more powerful forms during battle. Mega Evolution was absent from the recent games, such as Pokémon Sword and Shield and Pokémon Legends: Arceus, but it will make a comeback in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, with new Mega Evolutions for some of the fan-favorite Pokémon from the Kalos region.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A is being developed by Game Freak, the studio behind most of the Pokémon games. The game was announced on February 27, 2024, during a Pokémon Presents presentation that celebrated the 28th anniversary of the franchise.

The game is expected to launch in 2025, with a simultaneous global release.
