ALBAWABA - Pokémon COO Takato Utsunomiya said in an interview with the Guardian after being asked about his current role in the company that his aim is to make sure that the Pokémon series continues for “hundreds of years”.

Takato added that he wishes that Pokémon would outlive us all!

“I spend all day every day thinking about Pokémon,” he explained. “Our goal is to keep Pokémon alive for hundreds of years, making sure it survives well past our lifetimes.”

Can Pokémon actually outlive us all?

He added in the interview that even though it's important to keep old fans who are now adults happy, it's also crucial and harder to introduce the series to new generations because of competition.

Takato Utsunomiya also said that it's easy to focus solely on adults since they have a disposable income and added that he can see their reactions on social media which is why it's harder nowadays to cater to kids as they are straight to the point and very honest.

“But we need to make sure that we are still keeping the younger kids interested. Kids are very honest – they won’t play something they don’t like. If your brand feels old or boring, they will immediately dismiss it.”

Making Pokémon "feel real" is the way to go

He said that the best way to make the series strive more is by showing how Pokémon behave in the wild rather than making them feel like RPG party members. Having them do ordinary things like Bidoof in Arceus where it creates dens and travels in packs in the game.

“So there’s a newfound realism of their setting. When it comes to delivering the descriptions seen in the original Pokédex … there’s a lot more we can do there.”
