Patriotic songs such as Fairuz’s infamous Zahrat Al Mada’ain (Rose of the Cities), as well as many others that were released during the national awakening in the 50’s and 60’s, have achieved very high sales in Iraq, according to various Baghdad dailies.
The sky rocketing sales first came about during the first week of the ‘Al Aqsa Intifada,’ when approximately 150,000 tapes were sold, and has been steadily growing in pace since then.
According to Al Sharq El Awsat newspaper, the exact opposite is taking place in Jordan, where Satellite channels are available and viewers can watch the ‘Al Aqsa’ uprising through various channels.
Meanwhile, Iraq’s local channel is constantly airing music videos for Zahrat Al Mada’ain, Watani Al Akbar (My Grand Country) and Raj’ieen Bi Quwat Al Silah (Coming Back With The Strength of Ammunition). – Albawaba.com.
