Is fashionable It Girl Gwyneth Paltrow about to steal Elizabeth Hurley’s job? In a viperous maneuver, cosmetics giant Estée Lauder is said to be negotiating with the twiggy blonde to take over scandal-smeared Hurley's pinup girl title.
MSNBC gossip columnist Jeannette Walls claims that 28-year-old Paltrow and her peeps are in heated negotiations with the face-plastering company. If the actress becomes Lauder's new employee of the month, her well-known mug could be prominently displayed in magazines and on billboards around the globe … more so than it is already.
That's all fine and well for the hotter-than-Prada Paltrow, but where does that leave Liz (who recently suffered a possibly career-ending blow when she angered the Screen Actors Guild by filming a fragrance ad for Lauder during the actors' strike)? The 35-year-old Hurley could conceivably still be a co-spokeswoman, a source tells Walls, though the mega-makeup firm is reportedly less than pleased about the model-actress's recent negative press.
Hurley's latest shenanigans also include getting up close and personal with married comedian Denis Leary; witnessing protesters cloud the premiere of her new movie, Bedazzled; wearing increasingly tacky makeup and clothes; and becoming so frighteningly thin that one source described her as "Calista Flockhart with breasts."
Paltrow, on the other hand, has an image more squeaky-clean than grandpa's garaged Cadillac. The beloved actress bowed to screaming fans at Madonna's Sunday concert in Manhattan, NY, proving that she's got mass credibility. Plus, she already has plenty of experience in front of the camera: This week, she and former squeeze and Bounce co-star Ben Affleck appear on the cover of the Nov. 10 issue of Entertainment Weekly.
