US comedian Louis C.K. lampooned the Israel-Palestinian conflict on Saturday by comparing the warring sides to squabbling children who haven’t changed their behavior toward each other in decades.
Palestine, as the younger child, always gets the raw deal while the older child is favored by their father — the United States, he said.
The stand-up comedian performed on Saturday during the 40th season finale of the popular Saturday Night Live television show.
During his routine, Louis pondered how much had changed in the world since the 1970s when he grew up — with the exception of the Middle East.
“The 70s were a very different time,” he said. “Everything was different in the 70s than it is now, except the Middle East. It’s exactly the same. It’s been the same fights, and you know what, it’s boring now. That’s the worst part of it.”
He then made the comparison between fixing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to mediating between his children, with one being the favorite.
“My kids are like Israel and Palestine and I’m like America. The little one’s like Palestine because she always gets screwed, she gets the worst deal. She’s like, ‘She threw a rock at my face’ and I’m like, ‘You’re fine. You have a great life, you have to take a rock to the face once in a while, you’re fine.’
“The older one is like Israel. She comes up to me like, ‘She burned all my dolls!’ I’m like, ‘Look, I can’t do anything about it right now. Your sister is crazy, please don’t make me talk to her. I’ll work it out, you and me, we’ll go out and I’ll buy you a really cool missile and whatever you do with it is totally up to you.'”
The live audience seemed to enjoy the gags, as well as those about changed attitudes toward racism, although his jokes about pedophilia didn’t go over quite as well.
