Olympic athlete Rebecca dies after being set on fire by ex-boyfriend

ALBAWABA - The chairman of the Uganda Olympic Committee declared athlete Rebecca Cheptegei of Uganda dead on Thursday following her tragic death in a fire in Kenya.

The news of Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei's murder reached us after her lover viciously attacked her. She was a brave woman, and we abhor violence against women. May her spirit rest in peace. 

This foolish and fearful deed ended the life of a brilliant athlete. According to Donald Rukar's statement on the X platform, her legacy will endure.

During her treatment at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Rift Valley, 33-year-old Rebecca sustained burns that covered 80% of her body, according to the hospital's director. "All her vital organs failed last night," a medical source at the institution claimed.

On Sunday in Cheptegei's residence in the Endepis district of Trans Nzoia West Province, the accused, her lover Dickson Ndema Marangatch, reportedly doused her with gasoline and set her on fire, according to the police.

It arrived Rebecca Cheptegei had raced in the Paris Olympics marathon a few weeks before the assault, and she had finished 44th. According to news sources from Kenya, one of her children allegedly witnessed her mother being attacked.

The youngster confirmed to The Standard that he kicked her when she was trying to rescue her mother. "I yelled out for help right away, and a neighbor came running over to douse the flames with water, but he was unsuccessful."

The event also injured Marangatche, who had burns that covered 30% of his body.
