Nagib Mahfouz’s ‘Moonlight’ to Shine on TV Screens

Egyptian Nobel Prize winner Nagib Mahfouz’s story Nour Al Qamar (Moonlight) will soon be illuminating television screens, according to the UAE daily Al Bayan. 

Medhat Zaki, the head of Egyptian television’s production section, signed a contract with the author, said the paper. Atef Bshai wrote the script, and Sami Mohammed Ali will direct the work starring Nour Al Sherif and Yussra.  

The new series depicts events in the early 1940s, and the story of an officer, dismissed over his political beliefs, who starts hanging around a night club in Roud Al Farag and falls in love with a singer. She rejects and ignores him.  

The depressed officer goes on with his life struggle till he becomes a well-known politician and by coincidence meets the singer whom he loved – Albawaba.com
