Egyptian actress Nabila Obeid has announced that she will temporarily resign from the acting world, specifically the cinema until producers and directors are able to diversify more in their films and not focus the spotlight on newcomers and neglect the older generation of actors and actresses.
According to the London based magazine, Sayidaty, Nabila stressed that she does not have anything against young actors and actresses, and that she merely opposes the new direction the cinema is heading by concentrating on modern age films with the excuse that its what the audience wants. Nabila added that she has taken this decision due to the fact that the current flow of films does not suit her as a prominent actress and adds nothing to her fruitful accomplishments throughout her history of acting.
Nabila calls on all producers to rethink their strategy when making new films. She stresses that they should blend the newcomers with those who have a long history of acting and are experienced in order to make the work more successful and to be able to teach the young generation the tricks of the trade.
On a different note, the never-ending disputes between actresses over roles in different acting jobs continues this time targeting Obeid and Yusra. The dispute, which is still in its beginning stages, is over a role portraying the life of Huda Sha’rawi (Female Muslim figure) in a new television series. Scenarist Yusri Al Jundi has recently completed the script of the series and the Egyptian broadcasting company nominated Yusra and Nabila as candidates for the leading role. It was revealed that one of the actresses will be chosen for the part depending on her qualification and manner of portraying the role.
Yusra and Nabila have both begun making phone calls and trying to reach people who will influence the decision making of who gets the role. The competition between the two women led them to even buy the necessary cloths and accessories for the role, despite the fact that a director has not been chosen to direct the drama.
Egyptian scenarist Mustafa Muharam has finally succeeded on obtaining the approval of actresses Nabila and Nadia Al Jundi to star in the new television series “Raya and Skeena”, which is the famous story of the two sisters who rob and murder women. The series will mark the first time in both actress's careers that they costar alongside one another. –Albawaba.com
