“When in Rome...” With that being said, Lebanese singer Myriam Fares said that she's always cautious when choosing her wardrobe, keeping in mind the customs and traditions of the country she's heading to.
The superstar pointed out that her fashion choices when performing in the gulf are much more conservative than those of when she's performing in Beirut. Fares added: “Thank God that for as long as I'm in any Arab country and I'm able to perform in the most important festivals, and appear on the most important TV channels from the Mediterranean to the Gulf, I deserve to be respected wherever I go.”
She went on: “It's impossible for me, for example, to appear on stage while wearing a revealing dress in Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Qatar or other Gulf countries. However, in Lebanon I can, because we live in a country with freedom of expression. I came into the world of art from a very conservative family, but I'm a woman who dresses very modernly. At the same time, I hold onto my traditions and customs and I strongly respect everyone else's. Therefore, I respect that the general public accepts and is happy with my artistic status; everyone is entitled to express themselves as they see fit.”
