The Arabic Music Institute and museums of the late musician Mohammed Abdel Wahab and the Egyptian Opera House musical instruments will be opened in the middle of this month.
The renovation works included all the constructions, which were neglected dozens of years starting from their ceilings until the floors due to the damages that have been on these places. This is in addition to deepening the Orchestra pit in order to accommodate the largest number of music players.
The head of the Opera House, Samir Farag, told the daily al Hayat, “an advanced sound and light system has been installed in consistence with the international technology system. Also a central air conditioning system has been installed in rooms and theater halls in addition to revamping the damaged Islamic embroideries through injections in a way that maintains their historical origin. A control room with monitoring cameras has been established to monitor all parts of the institute and museum.
Farag indicated that sculptor Mohammed Thabet had given the Opera House the statue of the late musician Mohammed Abdel Wahab as a gift to be placed at the entrance of the Arabic Music Institute. The statue’s height reaches 70 cm. and it is made of polyester.
The Arabic Music Insatiate situated in the center of Cairo was opened during the tenure of King Fuad I in 1923. The first singer who stood on the theater of the 1000 square meter- institute was Mohammed Abdel Whab followed by the lady of Arab singing Umm Kulthoom.
