Living the high life around the world doesn’t mean that Arab Idol winner Mohammad Assaf has forgotten all about the poor and suffering in his hometown Gaza.
The charitable star hasn't let fame get to his head and has put up one of his shirts up for sale, starting with a bid of $50! The proceeds of the auction will go towards helping the Palestinian children represented by UNRWA.
According to Sayidaty.net, the UN Goodwill Ambassador took this step after the recent harsh weather conditions swamping the Middle East, with snow reaching up to the knees in some parts of the region.
The bad weather caused thousands of Palestinians to flee their homes and find shelter in refugee camps. The ex-refugee camp resident wanted to show his support to his native Gazans, who suffered most as a result of the harsh weather conditions, which were considered the worst in 140 years.
Heavy rains flooded the homes of Gazans and left them without electricity for long periods of time. Almost a million people are expected to need food aid in the Gaza Strip next year, a UN agency said last week as it appealed for $95 million from donors.
In July, Assaf visited a children's cancer hospital in the Palestinian city of Bethlehem where he met a handicapped young man.
All his fans and followers on social media went cray-cray when Mohammad posted a pic down on his knees to be the same height as the handicapped man.
