Syrian singer Mayada Basilis has returned the glory of real Arabic style of singing when she stood on stage in Tunisia and sang a bouquet for the late legend the Egyptian singer Umm Kalthoum and the famous Lebanese legend Farouze along with some of her own songs.
According to the London daily Elaph, Mayada has performed for the first time at the 25th season of Ramadan Night Festival in Tunisia after being away from performing for three years. The Ramadan Night Festival remains as the focus and main event in Tunisia during the holy month. There were a large number of fans who attended the festival and have enjoyed Mayada’s singing.
Mayada held an exquisite performance with her strong voice especially when she sang “Ifrah Ya Albi Lik Nasib” (My Heart Be Happy) for Umm Kalthoum and “Ya Habib Al Rouh” (My Soul Love) and “Zoroni Kol Sanah Marah” (Visit Me Once A Year) for Farouze. She also sang a number of her own songs like “Ma fi Shi Bestahal” (Nothing is worth it), “Al Mughaniya Wa Al Oud” (The Singer And Oud), “Al Fan Baqin” (Art Is Staying) which is composed by her husband the well-known Syrian musician Samir Koyafati.
The one song that fans enjoyed the most and started singing with Mayada was the Iraqi famous song “Fog Al Nakhil” (On the Top of Palm Trees). After Mayada was done with her performance she told journalists that she was very pleased with the success of the celebration and the fans of festival were special and unique.
Mayada who is born in 1967 in Aleppo, Syria is considered one of the unique voices in Syria and she has released 13 albums. Two major albums were “Ya Ghali” (You Are Loved) and “Hanin” (Missed). The festival is considering having Mayada perform again next year, because she had a successful concert.
