Lebanese artist Maya Diab is starring in the new television drama series “Kalam Niswan” (Women Talk), which is being aired on “MBC” during this current Ramadan season. She plays the role of ‘Batool’ a Khaliji “Gulf country” girl who is very rich and who suffers from her older brother Khaled strictness and she tries to run away from him to gain her freedom. Along the way Batool writes her diary where she reveals in it all what happened to her throughout her life and how her sister committed suicide because of her older brother’s strictness.
According to the London daily Elaph, Maya reveals that she was chosen to play a Khaliji girl because of her dark skin and her interest in fashions and how she is always up to date in the latest styles and brand names. It seems like her dark skin and wearing the latest styles is not enough, because in “Kalam Niswan” Maya’s performance was considered poor due to her constant mixing up between the Lebanese and Egyptian dialects. It would have been more professional to get a young Khaliji actress to play the role of Batool and she would have been more convincing.
On the other hand, the series “Kalam Niswan” is entering the boredom zone like the rest of the television drama series that are being aired on television this Ramadan season. Most of the drama series are taking a long time to convey their stories in order to come out with 30 episodes and the viewers are becoming sick and bored of what they are watching. Despite the fact that the series “Kalam Niswan” came out as a very interesting drama series and it touched a number of courageous issues, it seems like it did not convey the issues in the proper way and it lost its glow along the way.
“Kalam Niswan” is about four different women who live in the same compound and each one has her own story to tell. Their relationship becomes very deep. The expenses for the making of “Kalam Niswan” reached 17 million Egyptian pounds. The series was filmed in Sharm Al Sheikh, Cairo, Syria, Lebanon and England.
