Syrian actor Maxim Khalil was all talk about marriage and relationships during his appearance on Dubai TV’s “Al Khazna” (The Safe) show.

For the first time ever, Maxim told host Amir Karara that he regrets his first marriage, which he frankly described as a “big mistake.”

Maxim said that both him and his first wife were way too young when they got hitched, and weren’t ready for the big responsibility marriage presented them with.

He added that getting divorced was their only option, and that the only good thing to come out of that relationship was their son Hani.

According to Laha Magazine, Maxim said that a relationship between a man and woman should end in marriage, because it’s what completes them. He added that he’s no interest in any woman at the moment because he’s a happily married man.

Commenting on his career, Maxim noted that in the past, his name would always appear after the names of other actors in the ending credits of a TV production, because the names would appear according to how popular an actor was. These days, things have changed a whole lot, as he is considered one of the best actors around.

And in response to those who have accused him of betraying his country, Syria, he said: “Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But regarding the betrayal of my country, that’s nonsense, for my devotion and love for Syria are endless.”

He added that he fears for the future of Syria and prays that things settle down and everything returns to the way it was before. However, he said that he isn’t too optimistic about it right now and thinks it will take a very long time for stability to return to his beloved country.
