Creating Memoir from Memory: Your Life as a Book Workshop
If you’ve ever fancied putting your life story on paper, here’s your chance to learn how – thanks to Alserkal Avenue’s summer programme of arts-related events, under the theme ‘Sensing Memory’.
Open to just 12 people, this two-part memoir writing workshop is led by leading writer Allison K. Williams. She will take participants through dramatic structure, considerate truth-telling and narrative power. The workshop also provides tips on editing and revision techniques, and professional insights into the memoir market. All experience levels are welcome. Part of Cinema Akil's July line-up of screenings, this tense drama revolves around three women and how their lives are unexpectedly changed when they cross paths at a New York Family Court. ‘Custody’ features an all-star cast led by Viola Davis, alongside Hayden Panettiere, Tony Shalhoub and Ellen Burstyn. Directed by James Lapine, the movie promises a night of memorable entertainment.

One of India's biggest stand-up stars, Kunal Kamra brings his latest comedy special, ‘Fresh Thoughts’, to the UAE for a night of eye-opening comedy. One of India’s most popular English-speaking stand-up comedians, Kamra is an edgy satirist and a force for political change and free speech. His new show ‘Fresh Thoughts’ brings Kunal back to Dubai along with the city’s best desi comedians Miqdaad Dohadwala and Salman Qureshi. Salman and Miqdaad are award-winning comedians that have performed in the UAE for more than three years. The event is only open to those aged 16 and above.
