Egyptian actress Maha Au Auf is starring in the new series Ah Min Al Zawjat (Oh! Wives), in which she plays Salwa, young journalist who campaigns to help battered women, according to the Egyptian daily Al Gomhuria.

The journalist, who heads the women’s section at a daily newspaper, focuses her attention on the growing problem of wife-beating, which the press deals with in a sarcastic manner.

Salwa launches a campaign warning women not to blindly submit to men’s authority, advising them to practice martial arts that would allow them to confront their husbands, should the latter think of assaulting them.

Some kind of unrest takes place in the country, with the women taking the side of the journalist.

Maysa (Tayseer Fahmi) and Muna (Nihal Anbar) are two of the women who begin practicing martial arts, which bothers their husbands, who try unsuccessfully to convince their wives to stop.

The husbands begin to give their wives the impression that they have relations with other women, which spurs the wives to stop their martial arts practice and try to find out the truth.

The series is scripted by Hussein Foudah, directed by Ahmed Kamel and costars Mamdouh Wafi and Hajjaj Abdel Azim - Albawaba.com
