Shareholder businessmen in the Egyptian channel “ Al Mihwar” have chosen the Lebanese artist Madeline Tabar to supervise the channel programs. It is anticipated that Madeline will assume the post of channel director soon. She has promised to start test transmission in the middle of next March. Madeline has also started negotiations with some advertising companies to sell them the rights of advertisements on the channel. On the other hand, she has started consultations with the Egyptian TV officials to set a specific policy regarding their contribution to the channel whether in the form of equipment, devices, direct broadcasting studios or film contents.
A dispute has arisen among the shareholders over the channel capital, which did not exceed 25 million Egyptian pounds, while others demanded the participation of Arab shareholders to increase the capital to at least 100 million pounds. Some media figures including Sana’ Mansour, Head of Egyptian Satellite Sector, and Hamdi Qandil refused the post of channel director. Mohammad Abdul Mine’m Ghali, Egyptian TV Deputy Director, was then nominated to head the channel by the Egyptian Minister of Information, Safwat Al Sharif, but he did not assume this post preferring stay away until the implementation of the project. The nomination of Madeline Tabar has come as a surprise.
