Nothing is more hurtful than being cheated on in a relationship, and Egyptian legendary actress Elham Shahin knows just how that feels. In an appearance on “Samar Wal Rijal Wa Lakin” (Samar and Men... But) Elham admitted that she is careful to focus on her career rather than her love and personal lives.

This may have something to do with having her heart broken in the past. The actress said that an ex-husband of hers cheated on her, yet refused to give out his name. She did however respect the way he came out with the news to her: the ex-husband took her to his home, away from scandals and everyone else, and explained what had happened.

It could have been that Elham was traumatized by the incident, as she thinks that it is in a man's nature to cheat. A woman on the other hand is made to love one man, and one man only.

Elham also spoke about her marriage to Adel Hosny, who became a Producer because of her, yet she was the last person to know about it. According to Elham, Hosny, who was twenty years her senior, was an extremely jealous man and went into the business to belittle her work.

She recalls the day they got into a huge fight over a colleague of hers, Hashim Salim, who held her hand during rehearsals at the Institute of Arts. Not surprisingly, the couple got divorced yet remained friends and Elham says that she still asks for his advice when she needs it.

If she has no faith in a traditional marriage, what does she think of “Zawaj Al Mot'a” (marrying temporarily for sexual pleasure)? Elham said that she is entirely against it as it goes against the teachings of Islam. She added that this type of marriage is as far away from the noble institution of marriage as it could be.

Elham was even more disgusted with what is known as “Jihad Marriage,” and says that it is totally distorting the image of Islam. This type of marriage calls on girls to go to war zones like Syria to pleasure Jihadist rebels.

On a lighter note, when asked if she would consider marrying someone younger than her, Elham completely refused the idea of it, even if they were only a year younger than her. No toy boys for you then! The actress said that she is too mature for her age to marry someone younger than her, but that she's no problem with marrying someone much older than she is.

Who else wouldn't she marry? Apparently, Elham is against the idea of marrying someone that one of her friends fancies, as to not hurt their feelings. She is also against the idea of marrying a Salafi Sheikh, as they don't think of her as a female, but only as someone with an opinion.

But Elham is one emotionally-strong lady! She said that she doesn't easily fall in love: “My soul is very precious, I don't fall in love easily.” Her only worry was that someone would try and get close to her for the mere fact that she is famous. That makes sense!

Finally, Elham said that the one thing that makes her happy is her job. She uses her job as means to escape from a problem or a crisis, as she throws herself into the character that she's playing, therefore easing any problems that she may be facing at the time.
