After getting slammed by his fellow celebs for his political opinion and approval of a purposed legislation in the Egyptian constitution to have civilians tried in a military court, Egyptian controversial director Khaled Youssef finally broke his silence. The committee member assigned to modify the consitution spoke out on Facebook about the allegations against him.
Khaled posted, “voting on the legislation was not optional but rather mandatory due to the fact that we as a committee were given two legislations to chose from and to have civilians tried in a military court is the less severe.”
Khaled added, “To those who are making harsh attacks against me and the committee, I say just wait a few days to read the entire constitution after it is modified to make judgments, and I am confident that after you have read the new constitution, you will be relieved and put at ease saying yes to it.”
According to Laha Magazine, a slew of celebrities had recently signed a petition against Khaled and the committee writing the new constitution, criticizing them for approving the legislation to try civilians in a military court. Among the stars in uproar were Amro Waked, Mohammad Khan, Ahmad Abdullah, Hala Lutfi, Mina Shalabi and many more.
The petition stated that Khaled does not represent the artists, and when he was chosen to be part of the committee his nomination was not objected to due to the fact that conditions at the time were extremely chaotic. It was added that Khaled, who was a strong factor of the Egyptian Revolution, has turned against his people by accepting such legislation.
