Karima Al Saqli plays “Asmahan” at the Opera

According to the London daily Elaph, the success of the television drama series “Asmahan,” aired on satellite channels during the holy month of Ramadan has inspired the Egyptian Opera House to perform an opera honoring the late legendary singer Farid Al Atrash.


The opera will be performed at the opening of the 17th Arab Music Festival, to be held between the 1st and the 10th of November.


 The leading star Muhammad Tharwat will perform the role of Farid Al Atrash and the Moroccan artist Karima Al Saqli will play the role his famous sister the late singer “Asmahan.”


The opera will be directed by Jihan Mursy, who previously directed several operas about legendary singers like Muhammad Abed Al Wahab, Laila Murad, and Muhammad Fawzy.


 Karima traveled to Los Angles to rehearse with Palestinian musician Nabil Azam. Karima will perform in Los Angles in the opera “Al Qahirah Fe Hollywood” (Cairo in Hollywood) on October 26. 


Karima will perform the song “La Mish Ana Eli Abki” (I’m Not The One Crying) by the late musician Muhammad Abed Al Wahab, the song “Ya Gameel” (Oh Beautiful) by Farid Al Atrash, two songs for Sayed Darwish and of course songs by Asmahan.


 Karima is known for her unique performances of songs by Asmahan. She has participated in many international festivals, where she glowed in keeping the great traditions of the Arab song and music.


Karima has a great and powerful voice is known for singing difficult songs.
