The Jordanian announcer, Rania Awamleh, apologized for the false news of the death of the renowned Syrian singer George Wassouf, which she announced during her TV program “Top Ten”.
The false news led to the flow of thousands of telephone calls to the Jordanian TV inquiring about the credibility of the news which was announced by mistake.
“During my program, one of the TV officials passed the news of Wassouf’s death which I announced immediately. Later on I discovered that the dead man was an eighty year old Syrian called George William Wassouf whose body was being transported on board of one of the Royal Jordanian planes to his homeland through Jordan. The news conveyer did not check properly the difference between the two names”, Rania told Albawaba.com.
Rania added that she feels much embarrassed for this mistake which has caused big grievances among the famous singer’s lovers because this was not the first time news about Wassouf’s death was announced.
However, rumors spread last year regarding the admission of Wassouf to one of the Jordanian Cancer treatment centers where he died but the rumors proved to be wrong very quickly.
