Hollywood's golden couple George and Amal Clooney graced the 72nd Golden Globes red carpet last night in a sexy black tuxedo and beautiful floor-length off-the-shoulder black number.

Although it was a special occasion for Mrs Clooney - being her first time at the Globes and all - it was especially a big night for Clooney, who was set to receive the DeMille Award for lifetime achievement.

But before the Hollywood hunk received his trophy and gave another infamous acceptance speech, co-host funnywoman Tina Fey took a cheeky aim at him.

“George Clooney married Amal Alamuddin this year,” said Fey. “Amal is a human rights lawyer who worked on the Enron case, was an advisor to Kofi Annan regarding Syria, and was selected for a three-person UN commission investigating rules of war violations in the Gaza strip.”

She paused. “So, of course, her husband is getting a lifetime achievement award.”

After kicking off his speech with a few jokes about his fellow A-Listers, Clooney publicly declared his love for his new wife Amal and commented on the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris.

"I've had a pretty good year myself and I'm not just referring to the fabulous reviews of The Monuments Men," Clooney laughed.

The 53-year-old continued, “Listen: It’s a humbling thing when you find someone to love—even better when you’ve been waiting your whole life. And when your whole life is 53 years, Amal, whatever alchemy it is that brought us together, I couldn’t be more proud to be your husband.”

Both Amal and George sported "Je Suis Charlie" badges as part of their attire on the red carpet.

“And one last thing: to reiterate what we’ve all been talking about, today was an extraordinary day,” said Clooney. “There were millions of people who marched not just in Paris, but around the world. And they were Christians and Jews and Muslims. They were leaders of countries all over the world. And they didn’t march in protest; they marched in support of the idea that we will not walk in fear. We won’t do it. So, Je Suis Charlie. Thank you.”

Here's to you Mr and Mrs Clooney!
