Jake Paul, the YouTube sensation who has made a name for himself in the boxing world, has confirmed that he will face Mike Tyson, the former undisputed heavyweight champion, in a blockbuster bout this summer.
The fight, which is expected to be a must-see event, will be streamed live on Netflix as part of a new deal between the streaming giant and Paul’s promotion company, Most Valuable Promotions.
Paul, who has a professional record of 9-1 with 6 knockouts, has been calling out Tyson for months, claiming that he can beat the 58-year-old legend, who last fought in an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020.
Tyson, who has a professional record of 50-6 with 44 knockouts, has accepted Paul’s challenge, saying that he is ready to teach him a lesson and show him who’s the boss.
The date and venue of the fight have not been announced yet, but it is rumored to take place at the AT&T Stadium in Texas, the home of the Dallas Cowboys, in July.
According to the latest odds from BetOnline, Tyson is the overwhelming favorite to win the fight, with a -1200 line, meaning that a bettor would have to wager $1200 to win $100. Paul, on the other hand, is the underdog, with a +700 line, meaning that a bettor would win $700 for a $100 wager.
The fight will be sanctioned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission and will follow the standard rules of professional boxing, with 10-ounce gloves, three-minute rounds, and no headgear. The number of rounds has not been confirmed yet, but it is expected to be between eight and 12.
The fight will also feature a star-studded undercard, with celebrities and influencers from various fields competing in boxing matches. Some of the confirmed names include rapper Lil Nas X, actor Kevin Hart, comedian Dave Chappelle, and singer Justin Bieber.
The fight will be available to watch on Netflix for a one-time fee of $49.99, which will also grant access to exclusive behind-the-scenes content and interviews with the fighters and celebrities involved.
Netflix’s chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, said that the deal with Paul’s company is a “game-changer” for the streaming industry and the boxing world.
“We are thrilled to partner with Jake Paul and Most Valuable Promotions to bring this historic event to our global audience,” Sarandos said in a press release. "This is not just a fight, this is a cultural phenomenon that will redefine entertainment and sports as we know it."
