The media industry is super competitive, and looks alone won’t get you to the top. Egyptian actress Somaya El Khashab and TV announcer Samar Yousri are two of the Arab world’s well-known media personalities for their talents and creative ideas.

But it was competitiveness that got the two’s knickers in a twist.

This is how the story goes: Last Ramadan Samar presented a show called “Samar Wal Rijal” (Samar and the Men) on the Egyptian TV channel Al Kahera Wal Nas. This Ramadan, Somaya decided to call her new TV show “Somaya Wal Sittat” (Somaya and the Women) to air on the same TV channel.

According to Laha Magazine, owner of the channel, Tareq Nour, had relentlessly tried to convince Somaya to change the name of her show, without giving any reasons, but to no avail.

Confused? Don’t be! Tareq decided to air Somaya’s show this Ramadan anyway, instead of at a later date as agreed, which escalated the conflict further. Why? Because Samar is already filming a sequel to her old show, titled “Samar Wal Nisaa” (Samar and the Women), which has a similar idea to Somaya’s show.

See where we’re goin’ with this?

You can just imagine Samar’s ‘shock horror’ face when Tareq requested that she changes the name of her show so that it doesn’t resemble Somaya’s. But Samar argued that her title and show should be a priority not Somaya’s.

How did this drama all end? It was game over for Samar who had to change the title of her show to “Samar Wal Rijal Wa Lakin” (Samar and the Men, But...).

Hey, at least it’s a name with a difference!
