An Egyptian Islamist lawyer has filed suit against film director and producer Raafat Fahmi for including the name of God in the title of a satiric comedy.
The Islamist is also taking on the head of the national censorship bureau, Madkour Thabet, in connection with the film “Alashan Rabbina Yehibbak” (Do It, for God’s Sake.
The lawyer has demanded a ban on screenings of the film for commercial purposes, whether on the big screen, video or TV, as well as the removal of its promotional posters from the streets.
Furthermore, he has demanded that the film’s title be changed, claiming that the use of God’s name in the context of satire is unjustifiable.
Thabet told the London-based Al Sharq Al Awsat newspaper that the case was a “joke” by a publicity-seeker who was exploiting the case to become famous.
The film’s lead actor, who is currently busy shooting his new film “Sherem Berem,” told the paper that he had learned of the suit only by chance, and had no comment except to smile - Albawaba.com
