Iranian "mentally retarded" film enters Canadian film festival's lineup

Iranian filmmaker Maziar Miri’s latest drama The Painting Pool has entered the competition lineup of the 2015 Victoria Film Festival in Canada.

The Painting Pool narrates the story of a mentally retarded couple and their problems in the Iranian society.

The movie took the Best Film Award by Audiences and Best Set Design Award at the 31th Fajr Film Festival in Iran in 2013.

The film has been screened at several international events such as the 18th Busan International Film Festival.

Miri’s acclaimed movie won the Best Feature Award of the 2014 Sharjah International Children’s Film Festival in the UAE.

The drama was also awarded the UNESCO prize at the seventh Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) in 2013. The film was honored for “outstanding contribution to the promotion and preservation of cultural diversity through film,” according to the APSA organizers’ announcement.

The 2015 Victoria Film Festival will run on February 6-15 in Vancouver, Canada.
