Ian McKellen asked to play Gandolf in the new Lord of the Rings film!

ALBAWABA - Sir Ian McKellen went viral after revealing that he was reportedly asked to come back as Gandalf in the upcoming Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum movie. Fans quickly took to social media outlets like X (formerly known as Twitter) to express their excitement about the matter. 

The 84-year-old English actor recently had an accident by falling off the stage in Jun. 2024 while performing at a play in London which resulted in a broken wrist and the chipping of his vertebrae, according to the BBC.

During an interview on BBC Breakfast, McKellen said, "I shall just keep at it as long as the legs and the lungs and the mind keep working."

He added during the interview, "I can't tell you any more than that. I've just been told there are going to be more films and Gandalf will be involved and they hope that I'll be playing him."

Andy Serkis will be directing the new Lord of the Rings movie and will make a comeback as Gollum. Sir Ian McKellen starred as Gandalf in both the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings Trilogies making him an unforgettable and irreplaceable Gandalf.

One user wrote, "And it can ONLY ever be Sir Ian McKellen... No one else can pull this off."

Other users expressed their disappointment about Gollum being the main focus of the upcoming movie due to the recently released game which received mediocre reviews from fans and critics across the board for its outdated graphics, uninspired story, and horrible gameplay mechanics. 

The user in question wrote, "I don’t understand why these LotR projects keep choosing Gollum as the focus."
