Veteran Scottish rock star Rod Stewart has apologized after a short clip was posted online showing him doing a mock re-enactment of an Islamic State-style execution.

Stewart’s wife, Penny Lancaster, posted the video on her Instagram account but later deleted it amid the criticism.

In the clip, Stewart is seen with several friends in the desert, and at one point, a friend falls to his knees in front of him and the singer can be seen passing his hand near the friend’s neck as if he was holding a knife. It was made by the couple and their friends while on Stewart’s world tour.

Stewart is expected to perform in Tel Aviv on June 14 this summer.

According to UK paper the Telegraph, Stewart later said: “From re-enacting the Beatles’ Abbey Road crossing to spontaneously playing out Game of Thrones, we were simply larking about pre-show.
