Interview by Sohaib Al Hadid

After his success in Romantic roles during the past Ramadan seasons, Heartthrob Kuwaiti actor Mohamed Al Alawi is currently on set for his role in the upcoming series "Hodn Al Shawk" (Embrace of Thorns).
He reveals new information about his high self esteem, a gastric toning surgery he did and the story behind his golden necklace in this Al Bawaba Exclusive Interview, fresh after being named as one of the most handsome men in the middle east.
What can you tell us about your role in the series “Hodn Al Shawk”?
“Hodn Al Shok” is produced by “Kunooz Al Khaleej” company, screenplay is by Abdulla Saad and it is directed by Mohamed al Badri. this is my third collaboration with the director after the series “Ghareeb Ben Ahla” (Stranger in his Family) and “Rose Paris” (The Rose of Paris). As for the cast it includes Abdullah Al Harbi, Abeer Ahmed, Nour Al Ghandour, Abdullah Mohammed Al Ojeimi and many other names including Intissar Al Sharah.
Regarding my role, this time I am taking a bit of a risk as the role is new to me, I am drifting away a bit from the romantic direction to a totally different one. All I can say about the character now is that it mainly deals with two other characters: The character Layla Al Abdullah is portraying and the one that Noor Al Ghandour is playing. I can’t say more so that I don’t ruin the surprise for you.
Will there be a love story between your character and the character actress Laila Abdullah is portraying in the series? And will it face the same destiny that Saqer and Anwar faced in the series you acted in last Ramadan season as many viewers commented that they were the couple that they wanted a happy ending but that never happened?
I can’t really answer these questions in order not to spoil events for viewers but I can promise that it is something extremely different than what I have done in the past period. I just want to say that when they first handed me the series they were discussing an extremely romantic character for me to play but I was against repeating myself and I chose another character that I read in the script, and I found myself drawn to and I thought why not try myself in this new direction, and I hope that I succeed and taht people would accept seeing me in this new light.

You were chosen by Layalina magazine in the list of the most handsome Arab men, did that choice make you take care of yourself even more, given that you already take care of your fitness as seen on your social media?
My horoscope is Leo and I have high self esteem. Titles in general do not really mean to me, when I take care of myself I do it for me, not to get a title or for people to see me in a better way but for me to see myself in a way that I want to see myself in. In the past period I was really not paying attention to my fitness, I was craving food all of the time and not feeling like doing any sort of sports and was not following a healthy lifestyle and was eating lots of fast food, I had to undergo surgery that is called gastric toning and I don’t have a problem announcing that.
The surgery brings the weight down from 15 to 20 kgs without causing any flabbiness. I took a decision after I saw myself in the series “Al Mowajaha”, I decided I should take care of myself especially that I am at the time where producers are asking me to be part of their projects and people accepted me and liked me so I did not want to ruin that image so I started taking care of myself more, but eventually I do it for myself and I thank Layalina magazine for the title they gave me and I am happy for it.
What about Love? Does it currently exist in your life?
I love being in love and I always and I always make sure that it exists in my life. But for me it is not necessarily romantic, as I deal with love and honesty with all the people around me. I am not trying to be philosophical or perfect here but this is my reality. All I care about in life is my house and family, they are the source of love that I give to other people.
Whoever follows your daily life on social media would notice that you were a golden necklace most of the time, Is it related to a certain memory?
The necklace does not really represent anything, it was on my mind for a while to create a story for it but then decided not to. I always wanted a similar necklace and I found it. I like it, that is why I wear it all of the time.
Any other new projects? Series? plays?
In January I have another series produced by “Cinema Magic” and titled “Malak Al Rahma” (Angel of Peace), my character in it is also different from the character I am portraying now in “Hodn Al Shawk” series. The series in general is different and unusual compared to the social dramatic Gulf series around and with a starstudded cast I hope it gains success. As for theatre, deals are usually made two months prior to Ramadan season, and I always make sure to be present on stage as well. Last year I couldn’t and declined theatre offers because of the surgery I did.
There are some other projects that I could be involved in but none of them is set in stone yet.
