Legendary veteran actor Morgan Freeman was spotted in a Shia mosque in London over the weekend.
The 79-year-old was attending the celebration of the day of Ashura; a religious holiday which falls on the 10th of Muharram amd commemorates the martyrdom at Karbala of Husayn ibn Ali, a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

While some speculated that Freeman might have converted to Islam, the truth is that he was filming a new season of his National Geographic documentary "The Story of God," which premiered last April and explored different cultures and religions to uncover the meaning of life.
Freeman's views on Islam were revealed in one of The Story of God's episodes earlier this year. The Oscar-winning actor said that he recently became intrigued with the religion.
“Meeting Muslims face to face, I've learned that Islam aims for people to live in peace,” Freeman remarked. “But watching the news today, you'd be forgiven for not knowing that. A tiny percentage of Muslims are waging war against the West.”
In that same episode, the actor also stated that the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim religions pay homage to the same God.
“Islam is an Arabic word that means surrender. Submission to God's will. The same god the Jews and Christians worship,” he added.
