Controversial Egyptian belly dancer Dina stated that her profession as a dancer makes it hard for her to make the decision of wearing the hijab (Islamic headdress), adding that the hijab is part of the Islamic religion and not the basis of it. She added that not wearing the hijab does not mean she is not religious at heart for her mother, who does not wear the hijab, prays, fast and is very close to God.

Recently, Dina held an interview on the show “Al Sha’b Yureed” (The people want) on the satellite channel Al Qahira Wa Al Nas with host Toni Khalifa. Tony had asked Dina why does she not wear the hijab and resign from her profession, at which she answered why would she do such a thing as wear the hijab or quit her career.

Dina said that many female artists had made the decision to wear the hijab because the decision for them was an easy one, but to her being a dancer the matter is out of the question for she loves her profession and the thought of quitting it is not on her current agenda. She added that wearing the hijab is not the deciding matter of whether a person is religious or not.
