The Jewish Greek-American director Joel Dasan said in an interview with the Greek paper Kathimerini published Sunday, “I would like to kill Sharon…this is my ambition.”

“The core of the problem in the world are violence and death which dominate this world,” said the director adding, “look what is going on in Palestine…it is a horrible situation.”

“I want to kill Sharon…it is my ambition. I told my son I am an old man and if I kill Sharon, I will be put in jail where I can continue reading till the end of my life,” said Dasan concluding that he did not know what would happen. Sharon is a military machine, he added.

On the other hand, the management of Cinematic Festival in Tel Aviv agreed on the request of the Swedish director Peter Torbiornsson to read a political statement condemning Sharon as a precondition for screening his film The Lovers of San Fernando at the festival.

On the stage and before an astonished audience the festival producer read Saturday the statement entitled “Go Back to Prudence Sharon,” which was written by the Swedish director.

“We condemn the dirty Israeli actions against the Palestinians and call upon Sharon to go back to prudence, peace and negotiation with Arafat,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Israel’s prize-winning singer Yaffa Yarkoni criticized the Israeli government bitterly on Monday. She said in an interview with the Israeli army radio, which published part of the interview, “I advocate the phenomenon of refusing service in the Israeli army and the need for returning the territories occupied in the 1967 war in exchange of peace.”

She added, “the state of Israel is on the brinkmanship and lacks real leadership. If things do not improve I shall advise my grandchildren to leave the country.”

“We are people who faced a catastrophe, how could we commit such actions?” added Yarkoni -- Albawaba.com
