After 21 years out of the spotlight, banned from performing or producing records in her native country of Iran due to the 1979 Islamic revolution, internationally renowned Iranian singer and filmstar Googoosh takes to the stage, choosing the Dubai Shopping Festival for her ‘debut’ performance.
Born Faegheh Atashin, this 50-year old singer changed her name to Googoosh at a young age, when she began performing and singing at the encouragement of her father. Her career in Iran attracted many adoring fans whose veneration elevated her to pop star icon status.
Famous for her repertoire of over 200 songs dexterously sung in English, Arabic and Persian, Googoosh is currently circuiting Europe and the United States on her comeback tour to promote her new album, “Zoroaster”.
According to Arabic press sources, her concert in Dubai, the first in the Arabian Gulf, is scheduled for March 21 at the World Trade Centre. She takes to the stage a second night at the 24,000- seat stadium, Al Ahli Club, on March 24. Googoosh specifically booked the evening of March 21, which is Narouz, the Iranian New Year, to be able to celebrate the festival.
Later this year, Googoosh will release a film based on the novel Scarecrow Lover, directed by her husband, Massood Kimiai. (Albawaba)
