Kratos is back and he's here to kill some gods.
During their E3 Conference, Sony showcased the new God of War game in a brand new "gameplay" trailer, which was rich with monsters, murder, and atmosphere.
The game will swap the series' resident Greek mythology for the Norse: Kratos is probably out to kill Odin, Loki, Thor...the lot. As appropriate for that particular mythology, the game will focus on a father-son relationship between Kratos and Atreus, who join the player in hunting, firing arrows, and...err, throwing the occasional lightning bolt.
I get the feeling there's more to this child than meets the eye.
Santa Monica Creative Director Cory Barlog, who worked on the first two God of War games said the game will be focused on exploration, with characters able to ride a boat to go around areas; it is not, however, an open-world game.
He also revealed it's a game heavy on storytelling; towards the end of the trailer, Jörmungandr the World Serpent appears. Jörmungandr is a player in Ragnarök, the war that brings about the end of the gods...something Kratos is known for.
The game will be releasing in early 2018 for the PS4.
