Syrian singer George Wassouf will perform a concert Sunday in Baghdad, as part of Iraq’s celebrations of the Iraqi president Saddam Hussein’s birthday.
Wassouf who arrived Baghdad Saturday night, in his first visit to the country, said in an interview with the Iraqi TV for youth “al Milad” that he is glad to visit Iraq and to perform his songs for the Iraqi audience in this occasion.
The Syrian singer is scheduled to sing Sunday evening along with a number of Iraqi singers at al Jadiriyya Club.
Also, as part of Iraq’s celebrations of their president’s 65th birthday, the play Zabibah wa al Malek (Zabibah and the King) based on a novel believed to have been written by Saddam Hussein, started Saturday its performances. The play is expected to be the biggest production in the history of the Iraqi theater.
Costarring in the play, Sami Kuftan, Jawad al Shukraji, Fatma al Rebaie’i, Suha Salem, Karim Mohsen and others.
The novel released last year was greatly publicized more than any other Iraqi novel. It depicts the king, as a person loved by his people. He loves Zabibah and faces conspiracies by other kings who envy him – Albawaba.com
