Deposed Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi is still making headlines five years after his death.
Rumor has it that the late Colonel was planning on assassinating one of the Arab world's most beloved Egyptian actors: Adel Imam.
According to Akhbar Alkhaleej, renowned make up artist Mohamed Ashoub said in a recent interview that Gaddafi was extremely offended by Imam's alleged impersonation of him in the 1993 play "Al Zaeem" (The Colonel).
Imam, 76, played an Arab dictator in the iconic play, a character whom Gaddafi was convinced represented him.
Gaddafi invited Imam and his crew to perform the play in Libya. Organizing the logistics was done through Ashoub.
However, luckily for Imam and his crew, Ashoub was informed by a close friend to the Libyan Intelligence that Gaddafi's plan was to assassinate Imam and his team once they got on to the stage, then to kill off the assassina to get rid of the evidence.
Ashoub then turned to the Libyan Minister of Information Abdallah Mansour and informed him about Gaddafi's plot.
The Minister claimed to know nothing of the sort, but decided to cancel any scheduled cultural events at the time.
Although (sadly) the minister's punishment was prison, he saved a living legend's life, and for that, we're sure Imam is grateful.
