Syrian drama director Mohammed Fardos Atasi is embarking on his first joint Syrian-Egyptian TV drama. Shooting is expected to begin soon after the script is hammered out by Egyptian writer Samir Al Jamal.
The story is about a Syrian young soldier who falls in love with the sister of his Egyptian colleague during the era of unity between Syria and Egypt.
The Syrian soldier and the Egyptian girl get married during his military service in Egypt. They have children, but during the 1973 October War with Israel, the Syrian soldier is killed. His widow decides to stay in Syria, as she has come to consider it her homeland.
“I chose the theme while I was in Cairo with the writer Samir Al Jamal,” Atasi told Al Sharq Alawsat daily. “Also, I have chosen Jamal Suleiman and Norman Asa’d as the stars, because they are close to us.”
“The writer met Ali Jamal during filming of the series “Almahkoom” (Convict), and he saw Norman during his last visit to Syria,” added Atasi.
The director considers this cooperation as a sign of Egyptian recognition of Syrian drama.
