Emma Stone has admitted she felt 'gloomy' for a week after turning 30 and feels as though she is still finding her voice.
The Oscar-winning actress believes her self-confidence has grown in recent years and she has accepted that she will never be liked by everyone, saying she no longer feels the need to 'win over the unwinnable'.
The actress made the confession to British Vogue, as she joined her The Favourite co-star Olivia Colman for a chat in the February issue.
Emma said: 'I got gloomy for about a week, but realised the most interesting part about becoming an adult is most things become bittersweet. I’m still finding my voice.'
Emma has taken the last year off work and admitted she spent 2018 being 'drifty'.
She said: 'I haven't worked since last December - by the time I work again, it will have been 14 months. '
When asked what she had gotten up to, she replied: 'F**k, I do not know. I didn't learn a language, I didn't learn to cook, I've been a little ... drifty.'
Questioned about her charming public image by the publication, Emma responded: 'It's OK if not everybody likes you.
'And that doesn't make it more appealing to convince them of why you are likeable.
'It's interesting, you saying about the public persona of my 'charm' or whatever. Part of that is my damage, you know. Part of that is my flaw.
'So that was a major lesson, not falling over myself to win over the unwinnable. What else? Nobody knows what they're doing! We're all just a bunch of people trying to figure out how to get through the day.'
Emma stars alongside Olivia Coleman and Rachel Weisz in the new period film The Favourite.
The flick focuses on the behind-the-scenes politics between two cousins jockeying to be court favourites during the reign of Queen Anne in the early 18th century.
Olivia stars as the monarch while Emma portrays Abigail Hill, a favourite of the Queen.
Rachel plays Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough.
Anne, who is said to be Britain's only bisexual monarch, is depicted having an intimate relationship with Stone's character.
Speaking of filming, Olivia said: 'There were some scenes I was nervous about.'
However, the actress came up with an interesting way of lightening the mood during the romantic moments.
She said: 'I put a damp sponge between my legs, because I thought it would be funny for Emma to find. You can see in her face the sudden look of horror.'
The Favourite, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, has received almost universal praise from critics.
It has been nominated for four Golden Globe awards including Best Lead Actress for Olivia and Best Supporting Actress for both Emma and Rachel.
Emma looked sensational for her photoshoot for the fashion magazine.
She donned a green negligee in one shot, her flame-coloured locks styled into light curls.
In another shot, she donned a silk shirt with brown, flared pants and cream heels.
The actress sported an intricately designed jacket for the cover, with a cream base and a green and blue floral finish.
Her hair slicked back, she completed the look with dramatic blue eye shadow and a strong red lip.
