The Emirati President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nhayan has banned the television drama series “Sa’doon Al Awaji” being aired on Abu Dhabi channel.
The request came by the Emirati president after several Arab tribes complained that the series incorrectly portrays their history.
The 30 episode series depicts the life of Sheikh Sa’doon Al Awaji, born in the north part of the Arab peninsula around 1750.
The Bedouin drama series was produced by “Al Reef Art Production Company” and directed by Nathir Awad.
The series was attacked by various Arab tribes, fearing it create a conflict between them.
The series takes place in Tadmor, Syria because it resembles the location where Sheikh Sa’doon was actually born.
The series starts the famous Syrian actor Rashid Asaf and a number of Syrian, Jordanian, Saudi and Qatari actors.
“Sa’doon Al Awaji” is the second series to be banned during the holy month of Ramadan. The first was “Fonjan Al Dam” (A Cup of Blood), to be aired on MBC satellite channel.
