Following months of very public sparring, Detroit rapper Eminem and wife Kimberly Mathers have agreed to reconcile, the couple’s lawyers say, according to ABC online.
"They’ve been working on this for a while and they’re really happy. It’s going to be a happy holiday and a happy new year for them," said Harvey Hauer, the lawyer for the foul-mouthed rapper whose real name is Marshall Mathers and was sued by his own mother last year for $10 million.
Both Eminem and his wife Kim, who attempted suicide in the couple’s home in July while Eminem was performing at a concert, signed an agreement on Wednesday in Macomb County Circuit Court in Michigan to dismiss their respective divorce actions. "She’s a very strong woman and a great mother. There’s been very public ups and downs, but she sees very positive things about Marshall and I have to respect that and take her at her word," said her lawyer Neil Rockind, who had sought the divorce over Eminem’s onstage antics and lyrics in his song Kim, which depicts horrific domestic violence resulting in his wife’s grisly murder. "Kim is pleased that she and her husband have been able to set their differences aside, particularly for the sake of their daughter, Hailie Jade," Rockind said Thursday. Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP is among the most popular releases of the past year, but it has also been a target for criticism and controversy due to its violent, misogynist and anti-homosexual lyrics. The multimillionaire pair will continue to reside with their four-year-old daughter in a their $1.5 million home in a gated community in Clinton Township, Michigan. The couple, both in their mid-20s, have been together since their teens. Eminem’s mother, Deborah Mathers-Briggs, has also accused the rapper of defaming her in songs and media interviews. Eminem first filed for divorce last summer following a June 4 bar fight between himself and John Guerra. Eminem hit Guerra in the head with an unloaded gun after seeing him give Kim what she called "an innocent kiss." According to reports, Eminem told police he was there to spy on what he thought was a cheating wife.
