Algerian activists have started a campaign to boycott a concert by Lebanese singer Elissa in July.

Algerian newspapers announced the news on Monday with conflicting reports about the cost of the concert. While some announced that tickets will cost 100 euro, others said that the price will be half that amount.

Activists called for an end to expensive concerts, saying that dozens of people have been committing suicide because of unemployment.

Newspapers reported one activist saying: “The youth are more worthy of that money. We are only demanding our rights,” while another said that if the concert does not get cancelled, the audience will throw eggs and tomatoes at the singer.

It is planned that Elissa will hold a concert in the city of Anaba in Algeria on 2 July. She had previously held a concert in Algeria's capital in 2007.
